There are some people that I would never want my child to be alone with. There are also a great number of people in my life who Asher is probably better of with than his dad. The impact that people can have a young child is incredible, both negative and positive.
I have become very interest in worldviews lately. How we think and frame the world really does dictate our behavior and values. 1 Corinthians 15:33 reads,
“Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”
This is a commonly used verse to emphasize the need to steer away from those who do wrong. In context though, the people the Apostle Paul is recommending the Corinthians church to stay away from are those in there own congregation that were teaching that Jesus was not resurrected (this part of the gospel did not fit with the gnostic philosophy that was prevalent in the Roman world at that time).
This was really a warning to stay away from those in the Church who had an unbiblical worldview. There is no real surprise that the lost world is going to try and steal the heart and mind of my child. The people that scare me the most are the ones who claim to be followers of my Savior, but are really tares among the wheat or wolves in sheep’s clothing.
It is easy to spot those who are not believers and whose behavior reflects their lostness, but Paul was talking about a worldview and way of thinking within the church that was going to be the thing that corrupted morals and values. We must be careful with the influences we allow into our lives of our children.
Do not be deceived just because someone or something bears the label “Christian” does not mean they will not sabatoge the heart and mind of your kid.
